Open Pedagogy: Equity & Representation: Home

Overview

Equity & Representation
Open pedagogy and open educational resources (OER) provide an important opportunity and tool to address historical gaps in equity and inclusivity within education systems. By enabling educators to localize and customize materials, OER ensures that curricula and learning environments reflect the diverse identities and lived experiences of the students they serve. Financial equity ensures that all students have access to quality resources without financial barriers. Cultural relevance and inclusivity allows for the integration of marginalized perspectives. Open pedagogy shifts students from passive recipients to active co-creators of knowledge, fostering agency and belonging while inviting students to incorporate their personal narratives, cultural heritage, and unique perspectives into learning materials. Accessibility ensures materials meet the needs of learners with disabilities. These practices can play a part in advancing social justice and enhancing learning outcomes by fostering engagement, representation, and equity for all learners.
